Interview with Flour & Fig

One question I get asked quite a bit is, “What do you suggest as a wedding favor gift?”

Well, today I want to introduce you to this little cutie pie lollipop baker, Molly Weener, who is the owner and designer of Flour & Fig. Flour & Fig caught my eye on Instagram with her unique and creative lollipop images. I contacted her regarding a photo shoot (you can find here on Boho Weddings) and asked her if she could provide a few of her products for some added flair. I am so glad she did and I think the addition made some absolutely darling photos! I highly recommend these adorable confections as wedding favors. Whether you choose a product already in Molly’s inventory or decide to work with Molly one-on-one for something a bit more custom to your tastes, one thing is for sure…your wedding will be a whole lot sweeter.

Meet Molly and learn more about her and her business in our interview, below:

Q. Can you describe your company and products?

A. I am the owner of Flour & Fig, a small lollipop business. We specialize in weddings & events. All of our lollipops are made in small batches and are hand-poured on a wooden lollipop stick.

Q. How did you get started creating these lovely lollipops and why did you decide to start your own business?

A. I attended pastry school at Kendall College five years ago. Once I graduated, my husband and I headed out to San Francisco for two years. I worked in a few different bakeries including Craftsman & Wolves. While we were in California, we had a sweet baby girl and the 2:00 a.m. shift was no longer a feasible option.

Once we moved back to Chicago, I decided starting my own business was the best way I could balance my creativity with having a family. I chose a product that I have fun making and allows me to be creative. And let me tell you, being able to set my own schedule is a total dream. After coming off crazy, middle-of-the-night bakery hours to work during the day and actually sleep at night is huge for me and my sanity :)

Q. What is your process like when you create your products?

A. The process of creating lollipops is a lot of trial and error. And, although my recipe stays relatively the same, I love experimenting with new flavors, designs, edible flowers and sprinkles. Flavor will always be most important to me and when I find a design that fits that flavor, it's magic!

Q. How can couples utilize Flour & Fig as a unique addition to their wedding and do you do custom orders?

A. Yes, we absolutely love doing custom orders. I think it's so fun when my clients have a specific vision for what they want their lollipops to look like and how to use them. Lollipops make the sweetest favors for wedding showers, bachelor (yes! root beer float & maple bourbon lollipops are really popular with the guys) and bachelorette parties, welcome gifts and the wedding itself. Lollipops are beautiful on a place setting or on a sweet table. One of my favorite ways to use lollipops is for escort cards!
