Q&A with Katie

By Meredith Corning

How did you meet?

Brad and I met for the first time briefly out with a bunch of friends in Hillcrest. But nothing really turned out of that at first. However, month’s later one of my friends is dating Brad’s roommate and I started talking to her about Brad and it turned out he had been asking about me. He had asked her enough that she just gave him my number. So shortly after that I got a call and we went on our first date!

Anything interesting you would like to tell us about your wedding day?

When envisioning our wedding day I pictured an elegant evening with beautiful music which led me to the Arkansas String Quartet. I had never been to a wedding with a string quartet and it turned out to be a wonderful choice. I feel like having them perform at the ceremony really set the mood for the rest of the night. I love shopping and that really came out during dress shopping. I ended up choosing two dresses because there were so many amazing dresses at Low’s Bridal and Formal. Who can pick just one! I had been on Pinterest for months pinning dresses. When I walked into the store I found the exact dress I had been looking at. I decided to purchase that dress but found another dress that I truly thought was the dress for me. Which ended up being the dress I wore for the ceremony and a little of the reception. The Pinterest dress was a little easier to dance in! Also who can forget the food. After spending much time researching a buffet or plated meal and running different scenarios through my head I finally chose to do a plated meal. I felt like it was much more elegant. Most weddings we had been too had done the buffet style. In the end I went with the Braised Chicken Rochambeau and it turned out amazing! The guests were able to sit, talk, and enjoy the delicious meal.

Do you have any budget saving tips or advise for other brides-to-be?

My biggest budget saving tip is to know that doing every little thing you want isn’t always possible. In the beginning I picked what was important to me so I could budget for those things. Borrowing things from friends who are already married is a huge help as well. I had a friend who had 20 round table clothes and renting linens can add up so it was a big help! My best piece of advice would be to plan, then plan some more, and then plan a little more so on the big day you can relax. When I was in full planning mode I had appointments every day after work and would use my entire lunch break on the phone with vendors and just trying to secure everything for the big day!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding and why?

My favorite thing about the wedding was getting ready with all my friends and getting to marry my best friend! I loved that all of my aunts and uncles were able to come. My Mom has five brothers and sister they rarely are all in one place so it was exciting to see them all together. So many people traveled from far away to be there so we felt so grateful to have such wonderful friends and family to celebrate with! And finally being able to show everyone my dress! I didn’t show many people pictures prior so it was fun to see everyone’s reaction during the ceremony.

Can you describe the design for your wedding and why you chose certain colors, décor elements, florals…etc?

When first beginning to plan I was told to pick a theme and colors for the wedding. When dreaming of how my wedding would be I always imagined a very classy affair that would be a true demonstration of our taste and love for each other. From that I came up with elegance and pearls. Although there weren’t many pearls at my wedding other than on the invitations! The elegance aspect came out when choosing to have a string quartet at the ceremony, which really set the tone for the evening, and the grooms/groomsman’s tux. I just wanted everything to be a very elegant and classy affair. Although I have seen many people use gold as a color in the wedding I chose to accent everything in silver which I felt when with the color scheme better as plumb, silver & black were the main colors of the evening. After getting engaged I was looking at pictures of other weddings and fell in love with Calla Lilies. I had never seen them used in a wedding before and thought they were so unique and beautiful. After that I met with my florist, Autumn from Petal Chik Designs, and shared with her my inspiration. She came up with the most beautiful flower arrangements I could’ve ever imagined. I had always loved the use of plumb in wedding and every shade of purple in fact! She did such a great job making all my random pictures that I showed her come to life.
